I think that I have individual photos of at least 75% of the students, and a lot of the event itself. DVD's of the photographs (too many for a CD) can be picked up at the front office at Berkeley High School, just inside of the Milvia St. entrance between 8 am & 4 pm, through the end of June. I ask for a donation of $2 to cover the cost of materials, and I will use the balance to bring in lunch a couple of times for the vice principals and administrative staff who are still working to put everything away and get ready for next year. They all work hard, and this is a treat that I enjoy bringing to them to show them how much they are appreciated. I have enjoyed watching so many of you/your children grow up over the years in our schools, and it was my pleasure to photograph you one last time. Good Luck in the journey from here, you represent the change that this country needs, the hope and the future. Students will be placed into either Geometry or IMP2 (or Honors levels of these classes) depending on which Smaller Learning Community they were placed into. Honors classes are offered in all of the SLCs. Retakes of the test will not be given. However, students who get an A or B in their 9th grade year and who pass the placement exam next year may move into an honors class as sophomores. Students who placed into honors and indicated that they want to be in an honors class will have their schedules adjusted accordingly by counselors. No further action will be required by students. We are excited to have you coming to BHS and look forward to seeing you in the Fall! Approval of Agenda: The Board approved the agenda, moving Information Item 3.1-I Committee to Address Use of Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD) by Students to precede the Action Items in order to release staff waiting to present the item. There were no Consent Items on the agenda. Action Items 3.1-A 2009-10 School Site Plans The Board approved the Consolidated School Site Plans for Student Achievement for the 2009-10 school year. The California Department of Education requires every school participating in school based coordinated categorical programs to have a Board-approved plan in place. In addition, each school is required to have the Board approve its plan for the use of the local Berkeley Schools Excellence Program (BSEP) Site Enrichment Funds. ** Public Hearing The Board adjourned the regular meeting at 8:09pm and opened a Public Hearing for Action Item 4.1-A Resolution No. 09-69 or Budget Trailer Bill (SBC#34). With no comments from the public the hearing was closed at 8:10 pm and the regular meeting resumed. 4.1-A Resolution No. 09-69 or Budget Trailer Bill (SBC #34) Categorical Flexibility for the BUSD for Fiscal Years 2008-09 through 2013. The Board Approved Resolution No. 09-69 to provide transparency and accountability establishing an accounting procedure identifying the funding sources affected and the program to which the funding will be transferred during the State's fiscal crisis. ** 4.2-A Approval of Superintendent's Budget Reductions to Address May Revisions The Board approved the Superintendent's Budget reductions, which resulted from the Governor's May Revised Budget, which included greater cuts to the Local Education Agency's Unrestricted General Funds for Fiscal Year 2008-09 and 2009-10. ** Conference Items 1.1-CF BHS School Governance Committee The Board Subcommittee on Policy asked that the Board as a whole discuss and give direction on the overall structure of governance at Berkeley High School (BHS). The Subcommittee recommended that Governance at BHS be reformed to align with the structure that exists at the District's K-8 schools, specifically that the school forms a Leadership Team and a Shared Governance Committee instead of the current hybrid that now exists. The Board determined that the varying opinions on the Board reflect those of the community, and that the process of addressing school governance at Berkeley High will take six months to a year. ** 4.1-CF 2009-10 Preliminary Budget The Board reviewed and discussed the 2009-10 Preliminary Budget, Budget Assumptions, Multi-year Projections and Assumptions. This item will come back to the Board for further action at a Special Meeting scheduled for June 29, 2009 at 6pm. ** Information Item 3.1-I Committee to Address Use of Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD) by Students The Board received a report on efforts by staff to begin the development of a comprehensive plan to decrease the ATOD use by BUSD students. To begin the process the Director of Student Services is working to develop/organize a Superintendent's Committee with representatives from the District, City of Berkeley Health & Human Services staff, BUSD students, staff and parents. The Board directed staff to develop a clear process for selection/appointment to the committee. ** Approval of Minutes: The Board approved the minutes from 5-13-09 and 5-27-09 with minor changes.
